The KPT Inset Path extension provides a quick and easy way to increase or decrease the size of the paths that make up the selected artwork.
Options Menu
As with all of the KPT Vector Effects extensions, the first of the four “umbrella” buttons above the Inset Path preview window contains a pop-up Options menu.
Pressing on this symbol will give you access to the following options for the Inset Path extension, each of which is discussed in detail below.
Help, Reset, and Preferences
The Help, Reset, and Preferences commands in the KPT Inset Path Options menu are identical to the same commands in the Options menus of all of the other extensions. For a detailed discussion of these commands, please see the Options Menu section of the User Interface discussion.
Copy Original
Selecting this option tells the extension to perform its operations on a copy of the original artwork, rather than making changes to the artwork itself. When this option is selected and you exit the extension, the modified copy of the original is placed directly on top of the artwork. This modified copy is automatically selected, and can be repositioned or further modified as desired. If this option is not selected, the operation will be performed on your original artwork, and no new structures will be created.
Round, Bevel, and Mitered Join
These three options let you specify what the angled joins in your artwork will look like after the Inset extension is applied. Only one of these three options can be selected at any time, and the currently selected option will have a checkmark next to it in the menu.

Amount
This slider is used to set the amount of inset (or offset) to be applied to the selected artwork. Dragging the Amount slider to the right increases the inset amount, thus decreasing the width of your artwork, making it “skinnier.” Dragging the Amount slider to the left produces a negative inset (i.e., an offset), thus increasing the width of your artwork to make it “fatter.” Amount is expressed in points, ranging from -20 to +20. The default value is 0.
